Our Story
Towne Square Animal Hospital opened its doors in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1983. At the time, the animal hospital was located in a single building and owned by the late Dr. John Hyland. The practice was very successful and steadily grew to a busy three doctor practice when Dr. Hyland’s son, Dr. Chris Hyland, joined the practice in 1990. By 2003 the building was becoming cramped as the clientele continued to grow and two more doctors were added to the practice. In 2004, Dr. Robert Byrd retired from Audubon Animal Hospital on Parrish Ave. After this, in combination with Towne Square Animal Hospital, became Towne Square Animal Hospital LLC, giving everyone more elbow room and the ability to serve the communities from two convenient locations.
As the population in Owensboro and Daviess County continued to grow, it caused a greater need for pet boarding and grooming. In 2005, Towne Square Pet Resort was built, completing the current day three-business LLC. From its small beginning in 1983, our family has grown to include a combined seven doctors.

After many years of dedicated service and compassionate care, we would like to share that Dr. Hyland will be retiring from veterinary practice at the end of June 2026.
Dr. Hyland has had the privilege of caring for your pets and building lasting relationships with you and your families over the past 36 years. It has been an honor to be part of your pets' lives, and we are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in his care over the years.
To ensure a smooth transition, arrangements have been made for the continuation of your pet's veterinary care. Dr. Nikki Curtis and Dr. Nathan Kunze, also veterinarians at Audubon Animal Hospital, will be happy to provide care for your pets moving forward.
Please join us in wishing Dr. Hyland a happy and well-deserved retirement. He will truly miss caring for you and your pets.
